Accelerating the Next Phase of Growth for Australia’s Leading Sushi QSR Brand

Sushi Sushi, the pioneers of grab n’ go sushi in Australia, today announced the sale of the business to Genki Global Dining Concepts. This marks a major milestone for the brand and reinforces the strength of its category-leading platform and growth runway across the Australian and international markets.

Genki Global Dining Concepts is a global Japanese-origin sushi group with more than 430 stores across 13+ countries and four brands. The acquisition reflects Genki’s mission to become one of the world’s leading Japanese-origin sushi brands and become part of the group of leading global QSR brands. The acquisition of Sushi Sushi will help fulfil that ambition through its leadership in the Australian market.

Founded in 1998, Sushi Sushi has grown into a household name, now operating more than 180 stores, with a strong footprint in high-traffic retail environments nationwide.

A category-leading platform built for scale

Sushi Sushi’s continued success is driven by a differentiated operating platform through distinctive, award-winning store designs, category-leading commitment to premium ingredients and a world-class food safety programme. These differentiating elements combined with the brand’s Art of Sushi Sushi local artist collaboration program deliver an elevated consumer experience.

The brand’s proven multiple retail store formats and established supply chain ensures reach and flexibility to support growth across domestic and international markets.

With 18 years experience in franchising, Sushi Sushi has a comprehensive franchise system across training, performance insights and operational excellence supporting the growth and success of its franchisees.

With a commitment to sustainability and independent recognition as an AFR Great Place to Work, the brand is well positioned to achieve its long-term growth aspirations.

Aligned visions for growth

Stephen Anders, CEO of Sushi Sushi, said the acquisition reflects the strength of the brand’s domestic foundation and future potential.

“Sushi Sushi has built a category-leading platform in Australia through relentless focus on quality, customer experience and operational excellence. This transaction recognises what our team and franchise partners have built, and partnering with Genki Global Dining Concepts positions us to accelerate our next phase of growth while staying true to what makes Sushi Sushi special. We have a Grab & Go sushi offer with significant opportunities for global expansion” said Anders.

Mitsuzo Fujio san, President & CEO of Genki Global Dining Concepts said Sushi Sushi strongly aligns with the group’s global ambition.

“Sushi Sushi is an iconic Australian brand with a powerful consumer proposition, strong franchise performance and significant runway for expansion, both in Australia and internationally. Its focus on quality, freshness and customer satisfaction aligns closely with our philosophy as we build one of the world’s leading Japanese-origin sushi brands.”

Genki has confirmed their intention to accelerate Sushi Sushi’s existing business strategy and growth plans, working in close partnership with the current management team led by CEO Stephen Anders.

Continued momentum across Australia and beyond

Domestically, Sushi Sushi continues to expand at category leading growth rates, supported by a robust pipeline of new locations and sustained franchise demand.

Internationally, the brand has recently launched in Saudi Arabia and continues to evaluate additional overseas markets. This momentum internationally is expected to continue, supported by Genki’s global experience, supplier networks and operational expertise.

With strong fundamentals, a shared vision and new investment backing, Sushi Sushi is poised to cement its position as one of Australia’s most scalable and internationally relevant sushi QSR franchise brands.
